Lost in translation – When words stumble.

Image
Lost in translation – When words stumble. Sometimes you may have said something in English that made perfect sense in your mind, but it sounded entirely different to the person who listened to you. Have you ever said something like that? I have had it for many times. The most memorable incident that happened to me was when I was in grade 6 during an English camp. I was narrating a story to the camp mates and when I ended my story by saying, “I am so boring” , what I meant was “I am bored” . All my mates burst into laughter, and my teacher who was in charge of the camp kindly corrected me. From that moment onwards, I learned how a tiny slip in English can change a complete meaning. For years, that small mistake stayed with me as an embarrassment, but over time, I managed to make the most of it as a reminder of how language can twist, dance and betray us. English is a language full of its little traps with all its idioms and expressions, which often do not exist in our mothe...

Ink of Dreams

Image
Ink of Dreams November 05, 2025 The poem  Ink of Dreams  turns emotion into art of the human mind. The opening metaphor, "It  drips like midnight rain,"  sets a tone of quiet mystery, where it represents the descent of ideas, thoughts and dreams that fall from the unconscious mind and all merge into ink. The rain is not only ink but also symbolises the loneliness and expression of buried feelings through the silence of night. Each line mirrors the artist's struggle between beauty and burden, the bittersweet nature of expression.  "It lifts the silent, soothes the scar."  Here I have tried to use language as the bridge between emotion and understanding that true creativity is not only about beauty, but it heals through expression. Ultimately,  "Ink of Dreams" feels  like a soft confession; through the correct word choice, rhythm and imagery, it shows that English is not just merely a language but a living, breathing art form that mirrors the...

The Art of Figurative Language

Image
The Art of Figurative Language November 03, 2025 Language is more than just a collection of words—it goes beyond them. Some writers have the remarkable ability to breathe life into their writing, making every line vivid and alive. To add depth and beauty to their work, these gifted writers skillfully use figurative language through imagery, metaphors, similes, hyperbole, symbolism, personification, and many other creative devices. Even the simplest sentence can be transformed into something magnificent with the touch of these literary devices. Figurative language paints vivid pictures in the reader’s mind. A poem without metaphors or a story without imagery would be like a melody without rhythm; flat and lifeless. Just as a delicious dish needs a blend of spices to bring out its flavor, writing needs figurative language to awaken the senses and stir emotions. Writers use it not just to decorate their words, but to transform simple expressions into art, turning language into somet...

Slang Talk 😃

Image
English language changes quickly because of its nature and    “slangs” are the words which are used as casual and fun words we use in daily conversations, discussions and digital platforms. Slangs act as the funny younger fellow of formal English. It is filled with humor, energy and creativity and full of fun.  For example, the word “lit,” gives the meaning of something amazing. If you hear someone say “spill the tea,” he/she is asking for gossip. If someone says “ghost” it means to suddenly stop replying. These kinds of words of slangs are not in your writing books or in your grammar book, but if you look on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter or on other social media platforms, you can see these kinds of slang are there in them.  Those words reflect the lifestyle and culture of a country or continent. It shows what the areas young people want and what they focus on in today’s world, what young people care about, what kinds of things make them laugh, and how they show their ...

Idioms that paint the language - You’ll love🎨

Image
Idioms are some of the most beautiful parts of the language. They do not give the exact meaning of what the words say but they give some clues, message or additional meaning. There is a famous saying that calls "It's raining cats and dogs." Definitely, can we see the animals fall from the sky ? No! It gives the meaning of that it is raining heavily. Idioms are some kind of forms  that give breath into the English language. We can say like that, because they make simple words or thoughts     jump into wonderful expressions. When you say "break the ice," you try to strike up an amiable conversation. "Spill the beans" gives the meaning of telling a secret; and if something happens rarely can be said as “once in a blue moon". These kind of phrases help to     make your sound fluency and natural sound in your speaking. In movies, day to talking, in conversations; the native speakers use these idioms in their uses.   Idioms can also be used for learning...

Tongue twisters are fun with twisty words 🗣️

Image
Tongue twisters are short, funny sentences that are difficult to pronounce quickly-but they're one of the most enjoyable ways to practice English. They are an interesting way to enhance pronunciation, fluency, and rhythm while having a good laugh. Take this one: “She sells seashells by the seashore.” It sounds simple until you try to say it five times in a row! Or “How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?” These silly phrases make your tongue dance and strengthen your mouth muscles. Not only children, even professionals— actors, singers, and public speakers use them to warm up before performances. For learners, repeating them can reduce pronunciation mistakes and increase confidence in speaking. They also help us recognize the difference between similar sounds like /s/ and /sh/. You can also make up your own tongue twisters by using words that start with the same sound. Try to make one with your name! It's a fun classroom or group activity. Behind ...
